A Singapore-flagged 24,637-tonne containership “Kota Wajar” with 21 crews has been hijacked in the Gulf of Aden, about 550 miles off Somalia and 150 miles north of the Seychelles on 15 October 2009 at about 10:12AM (Singapore time).
There were 21 crew members on board, and a large number of various types of goods, the current situation is unknown. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore is working with the owners and related organizations to maintain contact and provide assistance.
Kota Wajar is belonged to Pacific International Lines (PTE) Ltd. The captain is a permanent resident of Singapore and the crew members are from different countries.
The ownership and destination of the goods on board is still unclear, the Chinese government has been closely concerned with this issue and the details of this incident pending further investigation.
